Common questions
Which languages and voices are available?
Every voice installed on your operating system and browser, grouped by language, via the Web Speech API. The list therefore varies by device: the tool starts on your browser's own language when a voice for it exists.
A language I need is missing - can I add it?
Yes, by installing that language's voice in your operating system: on Windows via Settings > Time & language > Speech, on macOS via System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content. It appears here the next time you load the page. The tool can only use voices your device provides, since nothing is sent to a server.
Is there a text length limit?
No hard limit is enforced, but very long text may need to be read in chunks depending on your browser's speech engine.
Does it upload my text?
No - speech synthesis runs locally via your browser.
Can I adjust reading speed?
Yes - speed and pitch sliders let you slow down for note-taking or speed up for a quick proofread.
